#Pride 2023

I had hoped to make a post yesterday, but I’ve been busy. Between my new job at a local grocery store and web development and my current living situaiton, things have been nuts!

I’ve been an LGBTQ+ ally for several years now. I’ve also made it known that I’m neurodivergent, being on the autism spectrum as well as having mild cerebral palsy. A few months ago, I came out as a non-binary male, meaning while I do identify as male, I also find I don’t totally line up with what a male is.

So this Pride month is especially important for me. This month we stand with those fighting for equal rights and treatment in the LGBTQ+ community. But we also stand with others in the neurodivergent and disabilities community, as well as well as those fighting against racism. Because of that, I’ve chosen for the month of June to use the Pride Progress flag as the backdrop of the Fearless Geek Media banner of the site. This flag encompasses all of this.

Now this is quite a risky move this year, it seems, as Target has been criticized for carrying some Pride items and workers have even been threatened. I realize in sharing this, some of you won’t like this. That’s fine with me. As a freelancer, I do get to pick and choose who I work for, and I’m honestly not interested in working with bigoted and hateful clients.

It’s even riskier for me being at a Men’s homeless shelter during this time. While the organization that runs it is LGBTQ+ friendly, the majority of the people staying there are not. Only a few people there know about me being non-binary. Most won’t get it, and that’s unfortunate.

But thank you to all who are supportive of the LGBTQ+ community, to those of you who are supportive of the Neurodivergent and Disabilities communities, and to those of you who are supportive of the Civil Rights communities! You all are awesome!
